Senator John Ensign Resigns Committee Leadership

Breaking News:  On the heels of announcing yesterday that he had a brief affair in late 2007 through part of 2008, Senator John Ensign of Nevada resigned this morning his leadership of the Republican Policy Committee, according to a a local Las Vegas television station.

Ensign left Washington yesterday to return to Nevada where he appeared briefly before cameras to announce that he had an affair with a married staffer from December, 2007, to August, 2008 while he and his wife were separated.

Ensign stepped down this morning as chair of Republican Policy Committee.

Let The Race Begin: Pawlenty, Ensign Possible GOP Contenders

Republicans are already starting their dash toward the 2012 White House to try to oust Obama.

Minnesota’s Governor Tim Pawlenty and Senator John Ensign of Nevada look like their trying on their presidential candidates’ hats although neither will yet admit to intentions of running.

This morning, Pawlenty announced he won’t seek another term as governer of the Midwestern state still in contention over its Senate seat between Franken and Coleman.  Yesterday, Ensign visited Iowa, the first state to cast votes (in its caucus) for presidential contenders.

Both people are likable and, though conservative, not overboard to turn off the middle.
