This morning, the Cambridge Police and its union leaders stood together in support of Sergeant James Crowley amid a growing controversy involving the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

Saying that President Obama spoke out of turn about the event, the police union leader wants an apology.

Will Obama apologize?

He hasn’t so far.

Should Obama apologize?

Probably not because racism and racial profiling still do exist in this country even though its not clear at this point whether or not race was a factor in the Gates case.

What is obvious is that if Gates were a white professor who had lost his house keys, the incident most likely wouldn’t have resulted in his arrest.  Also what’s clear is that the prosecutor dropped all charges against Gates believing that they didn’t have a case.
