The massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico continues to threaten wildlife and the fishing industry today because the giant dome which was supposed to stop it failed yesterday.

BP quickly erected a building-size structure in the hopes of capping off the leak which is spilling about 5,000 barrels of oil a day  into the gulf (210,000 gallons a day).  Yesterday, their plans failed because ice and gas trapped inside the structure caused it to be too buoyant to seal the leak site which is a mile below the surface.

So what’s next?  CNN is reporting that BP and the Coast Guard will next “throw garbage at it” to try and stop the gusher.  Sounds to me as if they don’t have a clue what to do!

If this doesn’t bring the American People together to rally Congress to get to work on a real energy policy to free us from dependency on oil, I don’t know what will!
