Bill Cosby was arraigned today on charges of aggravated indecent assault, a felony charge.  The arraignment was in his home town in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, which is north of Philadelphia, regarding an alleged incident that occurred in 2004.

Cosby pleaded not guilty; the judge set bail of $1 million and ordered Mr. Cosby to turn over his passport.

The arriagnment took less than 15 minutes.

Gloria Allred said that “this is unprecedented”to finally bring charges against Mr. Cosby who has avoided prosecution for decades.  Dozens of women have made allegations of sexual abuse and rape after being drugged against their will.  One of the reasons that nothing has ever been done before is because Mr. Cosby has retained “700 attorneys” to defend himself against these women, according to Ms. Allred.

After the arraignment, Ms. Allred said that Montgomery County’s District Attoryney filed these charges because the evidence met the “standard of proof.”
