Missouri-based Monsanto has agreed to sell itself to Germany’s aspirin giant Bayer for $66 billion, pending approval from shareholders and regulatory agencies. Bayer accepted the sale price which is $4 billion more than originally offered.
Monsanto, as many know, is a global food supply titan infamous for its genetically engineered seeds (GMO’s). Bayer, a German pharmaceutical, famous for its aspirin brand, is also into agriculture, a producer of pesticides.
The move by these two titans to join forces is just more evidence of corporate oligarchs consolidating control over life’s necessities. Should we be concerned? Yes.
